Nursing education programs are facing many challenges, including the shortage of experienced faculty and high turnover among those new to academia. Many new nurse educators find the transition from clinical practice to the classroom unexpectedly difficult and often lack the structured support and mentoring they need to succeed.

New Faculty Orientation is an online course designed for academic nurse educators within their first three years of teaching. Facilitated by experienced educators, the course provides practical strategies and insights to ease the transition into an academic role. Topics include understanding the nurse educator’s role, creating a student-centered learning environment, implementing effective teaching and assessment practices, and promoting personal well-being through self-care.

Participants will engage in self-paced learning activities and will have the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and share experiences with peers through an interactive online discussion forum.

The estimated time commitment for participants is approximately 4-5 hours per week.

Learning Objectives By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Describe the role of the nurse educator and common barriers and facilitators in the transition from clinical practice to academia.
Explore strategies to cultivate a student-centered learning culture.
Apply active teaching techniques and appropriate assessment tools to enhance student learning.
Develop a personalized plan to support self-care and prevent burnout.

Continuing Education This course has been approved for 12 contact hours by NurseTim®. NurseTim® is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Criteria for successful completion includes: full payment of course fee, completion of all course activities, and submission of a course evaluation.
