Fundamentals to NCLEX® Success

This workshop provides a comprehensive, practice-focused experience in developing, refining, and evaluating high-quality assessment items used across nursing curricula. Participants will begin by reviewing essential principles of NCLEX®-style item writing, then apply those principles through hands-on practice and guided revision activities. The session also introduces more advanced item-writing strategies, including enhancing cognitive level, integrating clinical judgment, and strengthening alignment with learning outcomes and the NCLEX® test plan. Participants will also explore exam blueprinting to support assessment validity and exam and item analysis to inform decision-making and improve test reliability. The workshop concludes with an introduction to case-based items that support learners as they prepare for today’s NCLEX®. While all nurse educators can benefit, novice and intermediate item writers will find the applied practice especially valuable.
